İsmet İnönü (born Sept. 24, 1884, Smyrna, Ottoman Empire—died Dec. 25, 1973, Ankara) Turkish army officer, statesman, and collaborator with and successor to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as president of the Turkish Republic.
